Brooke Halliday: Anytime you go out there with Amelia, you know she's going to be calm and composed. Good to go out there with her. Really good crowd out there, and fireworks.. gets the heart going as well. Wasn't the easiest out there at times. It's hot and the bowling - moving on through the innings - is harder to face. Gets slower. Kind of my role I think. Trying to go out there and be proactive. Just trying to support Amelia out there who was struggling a little bit when I went out there. It's lower and slower, spin bowling is going to be key for us. Also changes of pace with seam bowling. Once we get through the powerplay and we get to keep four out, that's when we will see the perks of our total being 158.
Suzie and her love for 23? Suzie's love for the sport sprouted at a very young age watching her brothers play cricket and Basketball with their mates. After the semi-final win against West Indies, Bates admitted "My brother used to love Michael Jordan. He used to watch the Chicago Bulls playing all the time. My mum used to let Tom get off school early to watch the Bulls when they were winning. He (Michael Jordan) was my favourite too
Sophie's love for the game Growing up, Sophie Devine, loved playing all kinds of sports. She often used to accompany her Dad and her brothers and played all kinds of sports till the sun went down. At one point, she played both hockey and cricket at the national level. She, in fact, wanted to represent Black Sticks (New Zealand's women's hockey team) Olympic team (at Beijing Olympics 2008), but missed out narrowly. However, the poignancy of a missed opportunity didn't last long as Sophie was soon offered her first professional women's contract and the legendary all-rounder never looked back since.
Sinalo Jafta -Started watching cricket because of Makhaya Ntini and Mark Boucher -Played hockey during her childhood, and only started playing cricket at the age of 13 -Jafta initially wanted to become an all-rounder -Her hand-eye coordination at hockey helped her to lean towards batting -After trying and testing fast bowling, Jafta, aged 18, decided to give up and followed her coach's advice (to keep wickets) -Made her international debut at the age of 21
Laura Wolvaardt -Laura started playing from the age of five -During her time as a student, she used to practice batting as a stress reliever between breaks -She always tagged along with boys in school just to play cricket -Only discovered girls playing cricket at the age of 11 at a practice session -Made her international debut at the age of 16 -She postponed her university admission to study medicine just to continue playing cricket -In her debut game in 2016, Laura was out for a 24-ball 5 -She had to face the then number one ODI bowler Katherine Brunt, opening the batting -In the next game, she scored her maiden fifty during the run-chase and helped SA win over ENG
Nadine de Klerk -Nadine's dad is a massive cricket fan and used to throw balls in the backyard -Her cousins played cricket for Somerset and Netherlands -Nadine played hockey and Javelin in her younger days -Aged 17, she wanted to take up Javelin professionally before cricket drew her in -Nadine was picked for the 2017 ODI World Cup, but did not get an opportunity to play -Post that WC, de Klerk worked hard to improve her game and fitness as well -In the 2020 WC semi-final (SA lost to AUS), de Klerk was the best bowler (3/19) on show
