Azhar Mahmood | Pakistan's Assistant Coach: We are very confident. The way we batted yesterday, Salman and Sajid played really well and gave us the momentum towards the end. That was a crucial partnership. Still a long way to go, but we need to be very disciplined and be consistent with our line and length and stay calm throughout the day. There might be a big partnership because England have dangerous players. We know Joe Root is batting at the moment and Ben Stokes as well. We can't be complacent, we need to win this Test match. Need to be precise with our accuracy. We need to find a way to get 20 wickets and I thought spin is the way to go, especially against England. It's about discipline, it's about processes throughout the session. We need 8 wicket-taking deliveries today.
Pitch Report | Ramiz Raja: England will have to play unbelievably well to beat the odds. The track record in Asia when it comes to targeting a winning score of 250+ reads as follows: 13 losses, 9 draws, their best performance as a run-chasing target is 209 against Bangladesh that was a few years back. What about the pitch? It'll continue to surprise and hound the batters. This is going to be another tough day for batting because Sajid Khan will look to target that off-stump line to the right-handers and there seems to be a lot of traffic, lot of debris here. What about bowling round the stumps? There is this rough area that has developed. What you need to do is maybe pad up as a right-hander, not play at that line and look to play as straight as possible. What is so great about Joe Root's batting on a pitch like this is he watches the ball so closely and is quite comfortable playing off the back foot. That's where most of the batsmen tend to get it wrong because they play with a jerky front foot position and look to play with hard hands. Root is quite happy judging the length and going back and looking at the ball quite closely. The odds are stacked against England.
09:30 Local Time, 04:30 GMT, 10:00 IST:
Most wickets in a day's play in Pakistan 18 - PAK vs BAN, Multan 2003 (day 2) 16 - PAK vs WI, Karachi, 1998 (day 3) 16 - PAK vs ENG, Multan, 2024 (day 3)*
This game is set up beautifully. The ball is spinning, keeping low at times, reversing and batting is not easy. England though know only one way to play and will attack whenever they can. Their hopes rest majorly on Root who has looked good so far.
Agha Salman was on 4 when he gave two chances in one over off Carse which was dropped by Jamie Smith and Root respectively.
17:32 Local Time, 12:32 GMT, 18:02 IST: Another fantastic day of Test match cricket. This pitch despite it being used again which means it's effectively a day 8 pitch now has made up for the drudgery in the first game. This Test has been interesting from day 1 and today was no different.
