The West Indies will be relieved to finish with a memorable win tonight. The visitors started off the tour with a win in the T20Is but lost their way after that as they lost the rest of the two T20Is to concede the series. The slump continued as they lost the first two ODIs of the series as SL were clinical throughout. But the visitors had the best of conditions today and they flourished. So, a memorable day for WI as they have broken the drought and ended a 10-match losing streak in ODIs in Sri Lanka. It was a bad day at the office for the Lankans but they will be mighty pleased with their series wins in both white-ball formats. SL were going through a tough phase but they have bounced back and have had a couple of fruitful months in all three formats. They defeated India in an ODI series at home after long, won a Test in England, whitewashed the Kiwis in a 2-Test series, and have come up trumps against the Windies. We hope you enjoyed our coverage. Until next time, goodbye and cheers!
Asalanka has been awarded the trophy and he poses for photographs. Beaming smiles amongst the Sri Lankan players.
Charith Asalanka | SL captain: I'm very pleased with the performance and I feel the whole team performed well. To me, it doesn't matter. I'm the No. 5 batsman in the team, when I go out to bat, I'm not the captain, I'm just a batter. I'm handling the situation so I don't feel pressure in my head. Momentum is on our side and the guys are doing well. Hopefully, we do well in the next series. Hopefully, we will go in with a similar lineup.
Shai Hope | WI captain: Yes, very big job for us. We didn't have the best time in the field but we made it up with the bat. Most teams don't come to Sri Lanka and beat them easy. A lot of learning for us, very happy to see the guys finish on a bright note. (On Evin Lewis) He's an amazing player, great to see him back. He came off from where he left off. Hopefully, he can transform that into the series we are playing in a couple of days. We all can agree that WI play the shorter format better, Evin is a natural striker of the ball and hope he carries it on. We have to very consistent, this game will give us confidence going into that series. Short series, I'm happy and enjoyed it here.
Charith Asalanka has been awarded the Player of the Series award. He batted well throughout the series and also was handy with his off-spinners.
Evin Lewis has been awarded the player of the match for his scintillating 102* off 61 balls. He is injured so Shai Hope collects the trophy on his behalf.
23:27 Local Time, 17:57 GMT, 23:27 IST: West Indies open their account in this series and also in ODIs this year. Also their first win on Sri Lankan soil since 2005 in this format, has come after 10 successive losses.
21.6
Asitha Fernando to Lewis, SIX, to long-off
21.5
Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, 1 run, hat-trick of 50s for Rutherford. He has been outstanding this series. Flicks to deep mid-wicket and gets there, looks up at the heavens and mutters something
21.4
Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, SIX, that should be the game. Nissanka at long-on watches it go over his head. A full-toss outside the leg stump, Rutherford makes room and does not get all of it but these fellows are not slender blokes
12 off 9
21.3
Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, 2 runs, full and outside the leg stump, Rutherford makes room and drills the drive so powerfully, Kamindu at deep extra does well as the ball was speeding
14 off 10
21.2
Asitha Fernando to Rutherford, no run, brilliant yorker on leg-stump, dug out back
21.1
Asitha Fernando to Lewis, 1 run, to long-off
20.6
Madushanka to Lewis, 1 run, a low full-toss on the stumps, Lewis drives to long-off
20.5
Madushanka to Lewis, SIX, Madushanka misses the yorker and pays the price.
20.4
Madushanka to Rutherford, 1 run, again a fine yorker on middle, Rutherford digs it out to the square leg region
20.3
Madushanka to Rutherford, no run, fine inswinging yorker on middle, Rutherford does well too, digs it out
Rutherford and Lewis have a chat. It is the former who is in glorious nick. And he would be wanting to end this.
