After a dominating performance against Scotland to get their first win, West Indies will be looking to continue in the same vein against Bangladesh to strengthen their bid to finish in the top two from Group B. Bangladesh, meanwhile, won't be pushovers, and the conditions in Sharjah are well-suited for their bowling combination as they will look to challenge West Indies and in the process keep their own hopes of qualification afloat.
West Indies were blown away by the South African openers in their first game but came back strongly to breeze past Scotland that boosted their NRR and took them to No.2. But the lack of runs at the top, especially from Hayley Matthews, is a concern for West Indies and the captain will be keen to allay those by leading from the front. Meanwhile, the likes of Qiana Joseph and Deandra Dottin getting amongst the runs, and their disciplined bowing performance, are among the positives for West Indies who will be hoping to put on another collective show.
Bangladesh started with a victory against Scotland but fell short against England despite posing a stiff challenge to Heather Knight's team. It's their batting that has been a let-down for the team, with Sobhana Mostary (36 and 44) being the lone contributor so far. While their bowling has been good so far, Bangladesh need to step up with the bat if they are to shake things up in Group B.
When: Match 13 - Thursday, October 10 at 6:00 PM local time
Where: Sharjah Cricket Stadium
What to expect: Having played both their matches here, Bangladesh will be familiar by now with the low and slow nature of the pitches in Sharjah while West Indies will be playing their first match at this venue. Australia are the only team to cross 140 here, while England's 125 in the chase against South Africa is the next highest score.
Team news:
West Indies: Matthews's team brought in Ashmini Munisar and Cheada Nation in their previous game. They rested Zaida James who was struck on her face, and left out Shamilia Connell. Munisar, being a spinner, is likely to be persisted with for the next game, and West Indies could stick to the same eleven.
"The net run rate will be crucial. You don't know how the other games will go. Think in cricket terms, you have to look at trying to improve your net rate and sometimes you might come back to really assist. We have to look ahead and keep it simple and still try to maintain our net rate and see how it goes, how the games play out in the future" - Afy Fletcher.
"I think we played well against England. We had more chances to win. But since we lost that chance, we have a lot of positives to take from this match. If we can carry those forward and play in the next game, it will be easier for us" - Fahima Khatun.
